From an old clipping, probably from the Marietta Monitor:
Funeral Held For Mrs. Deen Hughes
Funeral rites for Mrs. Deen Hughes were held Saturday morning, August 16 [1957] , at 10 o'clock from the Goodrich Funeral Chapel [Marietta, OK] with Rev. W.P. Rowland and Rev. J.H. Miller officiating.
Mrs. Hughes died August 15 in Ardmore when past 100 years old. Three weeks ago she fell and broke her hip and was unable to recover.
She was born in Crawford County, Alabama on December 28, 1857 and was married on May 24, 1872* to Dan Hughes. They were the parents of 13 children, eight of whom survive.
Mrs. Hughes moved with her family to Indian Territory in 1900 and settled in this area where she had lived continuously since that time. Mr. Hughes preceded his wife in death on January 29, 1937.
Mrs. Hughes had lived most of the time since her husband's death with her daughter, Mrs. George Laney, until about two years ago when her physical condition made it necessary to place her in a rest home. She had been a member of the Methodist church since early childhood.
Survivors include: three sons, Joe, Arthur and Lee Hughes of Marietta; five daughters, Mrs. Sallie Horn of Wynnewood, Mrs. George Laney and Mrs. May Burton of Marietta, Mrs. Bess Lambert of Gainesville and Mrs. Nita [Nina] Brown of Ardmore; 41 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren.
Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery with the Goodrich Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
*This marriage year is incorrect. It should read 1877.
