William McKinsey (McKenzie), son of the immigrant John McKinsey, was born Feb. 1775 in Maryland. He died 1844 in Campbell Co., KY.
William married Nancy Susan Lampton on 23 Feb 1796 in Clark Co., KY. Nancy was the daughter of William Lampton III and Martha "Patsy" Schooler. Nancy was born 14 Oct 1781, at Winchester, Clark Co., KY and died 7 Nov 1832, at Campbell Co., KY.
Nancy was a first cousin of Jane Lampton Clemens, mother of Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known as Mark Twain.
Their daughter Bridget McKinsey married Nathaniel Stephens and they were the parents of Martin Van Buren Stephens, grandfather of Helen Stephens Hughes.
William McKinsey came to Kentucky from Maryland with his father's family when sixteen years old and landed off a boat known at that time as a broadhorn, at Limestone; he went with them to Lexington, KY., but they could not get a cabin in the town, and therefore went to Bryant's Station for protection from the Indians, having been attacked by them the night before they landed at Limestone. They remained two years at the fort, and then bought land near Step's Crossroads, in Bourbon County, KY.
William McKinsey was a soldier under Anthony Wayne in the war of 1812-1815.

William's father was the immigrant, John McKinsey (McKenzie), who was born about 1740 in Scotland and died, probably in KY, sometime after 1780 (1818?). His wife was Bridget Cromwell (d. abt. 1813). McKinsey came from Scotland, settled in Maryland and remained there until about the close of the Revolutionary war, in which he was a soldier, then moved to Kentucky where he lived at Lexington and Bryant's Station.

*Oliver Cromwell had a daughter named Bridget in the 1600's.
